MTSS K-12

MTSS in Bristol-Warren Schools

An update MTSS Framework is being developed in 2025 and will be posted here when complete.

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) A multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) is a proactive and preventative framework that integrates data and instruction to maximize student achievement and support students social, emotional, and behavior needs from a strengths-based perspective. MTSS offers a framework for educators to engage in data-based decision making related to program improvement, high-quality instruction and intervention, social and emotional learning, and positive behavioral supports necessary to ensure positive outcomes for districts, schools, teachers, and students. The MTSS framework is comprised of four essential components: screening, progress monitoring, multi-level prevention system, and data-based decision making. (from The Center on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support)

Tier 1 Instruction: The general instruction all students receive at their grade level

Tier 2 Instruction: Targeted intervention to a small group of students within the classroom setting with the goal of addressing specific student needs

Tier 3 Instruction: Intensive intervention provided by a specialist provided when Tier 2 instruction does not produce the needed results
